Upper Midwest Pagan Email List,
"The Tribal List"

Tribal pagans of the Twin Cities, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, a group contact resource of Pagan spirituality, Shamanism, Wicca, Earth based religions.

Greetings,

This list is a place where upper Midwestern and Twin Cities area pagans (including rural Minnesota, Northern Iowa, and Western Wisconsin) can get together online as a group resource. This is a gateway for new area pagans seeking resources and contacts. Most folks requesting information about the Sacred Harvest Festival are on this list as are many past attendees. Though there are lists that cover part of this territory, groups of many paths, organizations and solitaries can use this one. We welcome all Pagan spirituality, including Shamanism, Wicca, and other Earth based and Earth Friendly beliefs.

Please sign up for this list
and help build pagan community in the Upper Midwest.

***********Email List Survival Guide ***********

As this list develops, you may not like it at times. Those who are new to email lists, please be aware that everyone wants a list with only posts and information personally informative and uplifting for you. As this is a free for all, this is not possible. You will have to wade through threads, humor, disagreements, and comments you may not like.

    To aid you in this:

  1. Learn to use your delete button freely. You need not even read a post to delete it...no one will know. You are allowed to scan the days posts by subject, highlite them all, hit delete.
  2. If members of the list frequently post irritating things to you, set your email filters to ignore posts from those persons. If your email doesn't provide for this...get one. Several shareware programs are available. Be aware though that something irritating may be important for you.
  3. Deal with your fear of posting. It is yours. If the discussion isn't going the way you would like it, it is your job to add the comments that change the direction or the scope(range of content).
  4. Start "threads" (a group discussion which has the same subject) that are meaningful for you. Again this is your job to make this list meaningful to you. Keep the subject header current to the thread in all messages. That way others can sort their mail by subject and delete or read all messages with that subject.
  5. Deal with the risk that no one will want to reply to your thread. If no one replies it doesn't mean anything more than at this point in time no one chose to reply. It is not a comment on you, your ideas, or their significance.
  6. Always remember most members are "lurkers". Those who choose to listen in to the discussion but not participate. They are always welcome, but since they never speak, their views can not be assumed. Nor assume that anyone that is speaking on the list talks for them. Active contributors define an email list. If you are unhappy with the list, become a contributor.
  7. Get a life. If the activities of this list consume your waking thoughts, you are probably focusing a little too much on its content, the people involved, fantasy interpretations of words, and its importance in your life and for the Pagan Community. Please keep this in mind.

If someone chooses to leave or join the list, it is their choice. No one, or the list itself, is responsible or to blame. Numbers don't make a list, active contributors do. A list is like anything, it is built by those with the energy and vision to persist. Active participants are the builders. If you want a skyscraper, better join in the foundation. some are not cut out for an email list. It takes time, energy, reading and writing ability, and desire. You will never get just what you want. The issue of control and censorship often comes up. If it is a major issue for you there is a good chance these are issues in the rest of your life being expressed with inflated importance on this list.

If you persist on this list please have the same trust that you have when you talk to folks in person. Things will work out, what seems critical today will be in perspective tomorrow, and when all is said and done,...
a tribe will appear.
